Slack integration

The Slack integration is available on the Growth and Scale plans. Once connected, Sparqbox posts events to your default channel and provides slash commands for browsing and submitting ideas without leaving Slack.

Connecting is admin-only and goes through Slack's standard OAuth flow.

  1. From the gear icon, open SettingsIntegrationsSlack.
  2. Click Connect Slack.
  3. You'll be redirected to Slack to approve the workspace. Slack asks you to authorise a small set of permissions: post messages, accept slash commands, look up users by email, list public channels, and send direct messages.
  4. Approve, then you'll land back in Sparqbox with the connection confirmed.
  5. Pick a default channel for posts about idea events.

Once connected, Sparqbox posts to your default channel for these events:

  • A new idea is submitted.
  • An idea reaches a decision (Approved, Rejected, or Needs discussion).
  • An admin overrides a decision.
  • A campaign is launched.
  • A campaign's results are announced.

Posts include the idea's title, reference number, status pill, and a link back to the idea in Sparqbox.

The slash commands work in any channel where the Sparqbox bot is present. Type the command and follow the prompts.

  • /help, opens an in-Slack help message with the full command list.
  • /search <query>, searches ideas in your workspace by title and description. Returns up to 10 matches with status pills.
  • /recent, lists the five most recent ideas in your workspace.
  • /new, opens a "Submit an idea" modal in Slack. The modal asks for the same required fields as the web form (title, description, problem, category). Requires that you've linked your Slack identity to your Sparqbox account.
  • /challenge, lists active campaigns. Each campaign has a Submit to this campaign button that opens a campaign-specific submission modal.

Direct messages go only to users who have linked their Slack identity to their Sparqbox account. Users can link from their personal preferences in Sparqbox.

DM events include:

  • "An idea has been assigned to you for review."
  • "Your idea has reached a decision."
  • "A new comment was posted on an idea you're following."

Users who haven't linked Slack still receive everything by email.

To disconnect:

  1. Open SettingsIntegrationsSlack.
  2. Click Disconnect.
  3. Confirm.

The bot is removed from your Slack workspace, posts stop, and DMs stop. Reconnecting is the same flow as initial connection.
